The 2024/25 edition of the EFL Carabao Cup, which features the best talents from across English football divisions, rolls into the fourth round on Tuesday.

Traditionally known as the League Cup, the tournament is open to any club in the top four tiers of English football. This week's highlight is the showdown between Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Both Southampton and Brentford survived a scare to overcome Championship opposition and progress to the Last Eight of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

James Bree got the winner two minutes from time for the Saints as they edged past Stoke City 3-2 at St Mary's.

Russell Martin's side had given themselves a two-goal advantage in the first half when Taylor Harwood-Bellis nodded home from Matheus Fernandes' corner before Adam Armstrong converted from the spot after Yukinari Sugawara was brought down in the box.

The visitors however fought back. First, Ashley Phillips scoring his first senior goal with a superb backheel finish shortly before the break, and then the Potters completed the comeback on 54 minutes as Tom Cannon lashed the ball into the top corner with a first-time effort.

With a penalty shootout looming, Bree struck. Receiving Kamaldeen Sulemana's pass, the full-back hit a powerful low drive into the bottom corner to book Saints' spot in the next round.

Joining them will be Brentford thanks to the penalty heroics of Bees goalkeeper Mark Flekken against Sheffield Wednesday.

The tie went to spot kicks after the Owls cancelled out Kevin Schade's first half opener with an impressive 25-yard strike from Djeidi Gassama 12 minutes after the interval.

Both sides pushed for the winner but penalties were needed after finishing level after 90 minutes. The first nine spot kicks of the shootout were successful before Flekken saved from Liam Palmer to secure the victory for Brentford.

The Quarter-Final draw of the Carabao Cup will take place live on Sky Sports following the conclusion of Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City on Wednesday 30 October.
